There are many variables that can affect laser treatment (hair density or type, area, prior removal methods, hormonal factors.) For most, treatment requires 5-7 regularly scheduled appointments with possible touch-ups. Lasers have the best results with darker hairs, meaning some clients will have some lighter hairs left behind. You can choose to remove these with electrolysis after the initial treatments.

Getting Started

Clients who wish to start laser treatments need to avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks before and after each treatment. This includes natural sunlight, sunless tanners, and tanning beds. Certain areas may be better to start in the winter months, such as the back, chest, legs and bikini line. Clients that tan easily and retain that tan, may need to be out of the sun longer for the color to fade. Sun exposure can cause hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation which can take months to reverse.

Shaving, clipping, bleach and the use of depilatory creams(such as Nair) are acceptable forms of removal in between sessions since tweezing, sugaring and threading can negatively affect treatment and are not recommended.

We prefer clients to have up to a week of growth for laser treatments. If the hair is too long, we may require you to trim the area.

Our laser has a cold air chiller that blows on the area the entire time to help with discomfort but if you are worried about the sensation, you can cut back on caffeine before your session and plan around hormonal cycles. You may also take over the counter pain medications such as Tylenol, Advil etc prior to treatment.

Laser Aftercare

Remember, the hair you see is not all the hair you have. Hair grows in cycles. It may take up to 8 weeks for hair to regenerate after waxing, tweezing or sugaring. That's why it takes more than one appointment to permanently clear an area.

  • The area may have edema(swelling) and/or erythema (redness) directly after treatment. These symptoms generally last 30 minutes to an hour. If it persists, you can apply Hydrocortisone, Benadryl or ice.
  • Following laser treatment, take warm(not hot) showers. Avoid hot baths/showers for 24 hours. Avoid working out for at least 12 hours.
  • Do not apply products such as deodorant, makeup and lotions for 12-24 hours.
  • You may experience small breakouts within 24 hours of treatment, this is normal. Using a gentle cleanser, and witch hazel is recommended.
  • You can experience hyper/hypo pigmentation if exposed to sunless tanners, tanning beds or direct sunlight within 2-3 weeks. Continue to avoid these if you plan to continue treatments.
