Electrolysis

A photo of electrolysis being performed

Electrolysis is permanent hair removal, regardless of the cause - heredity, metabolic, or hormonal conditions. With electrolysis, we will permanently remove unwanted hair to reveal a more confident you. Remember, the hair you see is not all the hair you have. Hair grows in cycles. It may take up to 8 weeks for hair to regenerate after waxing, tweezing or sugaring. That's why it takes more than one appointment to permanently clear an area. For most, treatment requires regular appointments for up to a year or longer to allow us to treat all the hair cycles and then touch-up appointments may be needed.

During treatment, electric current is transmitted by a fine, sterile probe directly into the hair follicle, destroying the cells that cause hair to grow and regenerate. There are three types of electrolysis used today - galvanic (produces a chemical reaction), thermolysis (produces heat) and a modality that blends the two. They all result in effective permanent hair removal, but we prefer to use the blend method for our clients unless contraindicated.

Getting Started

Shaving, clipping, bleach and the use of depilatory creams(such as Nair) are acceptable forms of removal in between sessions since tweezing, and threading can negatively alter treatment and are not recommended.

We prefer clients to have a few days of growth, the hair needs to be long enough for us to grab with tweezers without damaging the surrounding skin.

If you are worried about the sensation, here are some things we suggest prior to treatment. Cut back on caffeine before your session, this does not bother everyone but caffeine can make clients more uncomfortable. Apply topical numbing cream 15-30 minutes prior to session, we use 5% Recticare or Great Value brand lidocaine, some clients prefer to apply and then cover with saran wrap to help with absorption. You may also take over the counter pain medications such as Tylenol, Advil etc prior to treatment.
